| | | Golf in HK I am coming to HK at the end of August for 6 months and wanted to know whether it was worth bringing the golf clubs?
Does anyone know of any expat golfing societies to join?

| | | well, golfing is an odd occasion out here, certainly may be worth bringing the clubs. The courses around are beautiful, but you need a handicap card and a fat wallet (about HK$1400 per round if you are non-HKID card carrier for the cheaper side of courses). China has much more to offer, and at a slightly more reasonable price. Shoot me a message when you get in and I can show you a couple spots... there is no real expat golfing society, but it is a predominantly upper class sport here, so everyone is usually english speaking and generally nice.
good luck.

| | | Handicap certificate is not a problem. HKD 1,400 a round may be a bit more of an issue but what the heck! | |

| | | KIA, i encourage you to look it up. Its quite funny actually. At Sai Kung public course, it is $300/ round if you have a HKID card, and $1400/round without one.
They make no effort to hide it... Private courses are flat rate, but 90% of public courses in HK/ China work this way.

| | good point, BUT they did not accept a working HKID card as a "HKID card rate"...
I'm not sure what they call that... i should rephrase to "unless you are a legal HKID card holder (not just working visa), you have to pay a bunch more."
didnt mean to be grey in my descriptions I'll work on being more specific.

| | No clue what you're going on about. There is no distinction between permanent and other ID cards as far as the Jockey Club is concerned.
I'm going to have to investigate this and call them tommorrow.
Still ... no reason to make silly statements about "being non chinese" ..... sounds a little bit like "if you're brown and running through a subway, we need to pump 8 bullets through your skull"

| | well noted KIA, as I certainly didnt mean any harm.
I am not a big follower of ID card regulations, but rather only know that i get charged non-HKID cardholder rates and do in fact carry a valid working visa (not sure if there is any distinction, but looks like a normal HKID card). Anything beyond that would be speculation on my part... Oh well, that's why i go to china to play anyways... | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8.
