I have found this site really useful during my time in Hong Kong, thanks to all the great posters.

I may have the chance to move to Tokyo, but my googling has failed to turn up a site as good as this.

Anyone know of any good ones - with tips about expat-ism, good forums etc?

Geoff, Unfortunately not aware of a Tokyo specific forum. Have asked a couple of our Tokyo based members and will drop a note here when I find out more.

Only popular Japan (not Tokyo specific) forums I know of are:

Former is more for expats but seems too commercial like for example, doesn't allow linking to external site. The other two are mostly just communities who are interested in Japan and the way of life but are more popular.

Not just commercial reasons. There are huge reasons driven by search engine algorithms and spambots (porno / casino scripts) which need restrictions on links.

We restrict links to sites that do not allow their members to link to us, sites that are obvious spam AND sites that are not in Google's cache.

Yeah I understand. Just frustrated at times when sites become too commercial and go to the length of threatening to ban forum members if they don't affiliate the links. Owners could easily do something like that automatically with a basic PHP script and regular expressions.
