| | Recommendation for Tailors? I need to have a suit made at a tailor. A light suit for the hot hot hot hot weather.
Do you have recommendations on specific tailors? How much should a decent (nothing over the top) suit cost in Hong Kong? Am I better off working with Nepalese, Indian, Chinese, or other tailors? Any pitfalls to look out for?
Thanks! | |

| | I've been very happy with Taipan Row. http://www.taipanrow.com
They have done 4 suits and many shirts for me now. They have shops in IFC, Galleria and Queen's Road.
How much you pay is very much a piece of string question. I just paid $6400 for a lightweight suit with an extra pair of trousers (they always charge 33% for an extra pair of trousers: so it would have been $4800 without), but they have fabrics which are significantly cheaper and others which are significantly more expensive than that.
The key thing is not to rush it, and to be prepared to go back for two or three (or more) fittings until it fits just right. By which time it should be cooling down a bit

| | I just had two suits made for HKD 3850, with two shirts for free, at a very good shanghainese tailor in Central.
The address:
Man's Tailor and Fashion
Shop 139, Melbourne Plaza
33 Queen's Road
Central
(ask for Aldo)
it's a very small place, they have all the qualities possible and they make very good prices if you plan to have more than one suit. I personnaly find it really good. It was recommended to me by a friend who has been living in HK all his life.

| | | Sam's Tailors on Nathan rd (address 92, I believe) is supposed to be quite famous. They were mentioned in lonely planet, as well as being known to have made tailored suits for JF Kennedy. I went to them last summer, and they did a terrific job. As for prices, I got two tailored shirts for 500 total (250 each), which is fine I think. | |

| | AT Boutqiue? I've just came across this ad in a local magazine for this
"AT Boutqiue". The prices they listed for " summer promotion" is quite low (suit for $1,500 and shirt for $180).
If anyone has experience there, please share ur experience. http://www.atboutqiue.com

| | | I've used both the Galeria and IFC branches. The staff seem to move around a little between them anyway so there's no real difference except I believe that IFC charges slightly higher prices to accommodate the rent there (the bankers in the IFC offices obviously value not having to spend 10 minutes extra getting to one of the other branches).
By the way, it has been a couple of years now since I got anything from them - essentially because everything I got then is still wearing well.

| | | I am consider using the Manning House branch since the charges are lower than the bankers' "club" (yeah they are cool paying the premium). Manning House is also reasonably spacious there. The most important thing: the finished products. Shouldn't be significant differences for the 3 TPRs I guess. | |

| | | tailor in Chiang mai I have a tailor in Chiang Mai thailand who charges 100 USD if you supply the fabric. He will give you a 3 pc suit with three fittings that fits well in my opinion. But you have to tell him that you want 3 fittings and he does not speak english, although I don't know about chinese.
the cost of airfare to Chiang Mai might be so little that you could still save money from HK.
Problem with chiang mai is that you cannot find good lightweight fabrics. you would have to buy your own from another city. The affluent men in thailand only seem to wear black suits, so that the only good lightweight fabric you can get is black.
I can get you more info if you want it.

| | | I suggest a shop called De-Luxe Tailor in central, close to Lan Kwai Fong area. The exact detail is as follow
Room 707, 7/F, Yip Fung Building, 2-18 D'Aguilar Street, Central
Tel: 2525-8888
The shop has been in business since late 70s and, to my understanding, continued to employ HK tailor on site. As such, it's very flexible if you want to drop by, alter, etc... even want an urgent job.
I have been using this shop for more than 10 years and am very impressed with both suit and shirt. On my recent visit about a week ago, pricing of suit started from HK$5,000. | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8. The time now is 09:02 AM.
