Hi,

Does anyone know of hotels etc in the Sai Kung Area, we'd like to visit the area and not have to worry about getting there and back in the same day.

Unfortunately there are no hotels at the moment in Sai Kung. (They are supposed to be refurbishing one but not much seems tobe happening there at the moment!) However I beleive you can stay over at one of the holiday villages. I suggest you do a google search on "Sai Kung Holiday village" and it comes up with a list for you to phone round.

As for getting there and back in a day of course that depends where you ar coming from! Probably the easiest way to get to Sai Kung is to take one of the mini buses from outside Choi Hung MTR or Hang Hau MTR. Or from Mong Kok you can take the mini bus directly to Sai Kung from the bottom of the Ladies Market.

I would say it take about 20 mins or so from Choi Hung to Sai Kung town. You can get buses from there to the country park. Even from Lantau it only takes an hour and a half or so.

Thanks for that, i know we could do it for the day but it would of been nice to stay close and enjoy the day to it's full extent.

It looks fab and we are looking forward to visiting with a view to buying out that way.

Did you manage to buy in Sai Kung? I am also looking to buy but I have no idea how much houses are. I am coming to Hong Kong on October 17 to investigate further. Any tips you could give would be appreciated. Do you know if there are kayak rentals in Sai Kung?

It's quite noisy in Sai Kung. Not the constant humming of downtown, but the sharp and unregular barking of dogs at any given time of the night for short or long periods. So sleeping with open windows is out of the question. Something to think about before moving there.

But the bus service is excellent. 24 hours from/to Choi Hung and Mong Kok.

Thanks for the warning about noisy dogs. If there are no areas without yelping canines, I'll have to change my moving plans which is a real shame because I loved the place when I visited in 1997.

Are there any decent alternatives in the New territories? Where do you live?

When you take Bus 299 from Sai Kung to Shatin you will pass an area with Thai Restaurant and Guesthouses on the left hand side before you enter Ma On Shan.

However, I have no experience about the quality.

Sai Kung. I enjoyed living in Discobay many years back. But it became too expensive and now it is far away from the office.
