| | | Interior Designer Hellowww,
I'm a female Interior Designer in early 20s with Singapore education background, currently living in Jakarta. I'm crazy about moving to HongKong and getting a Job in an Interior Design/ Architectural Firm. The firms asked for expected salary and I am confused as to how much I should wisely ask, as I have never lived there before, and totally blind about the living expenses as well as salaries there. Anyone in the know, or even not, but just trying to help would be dearly appreciated. I'll be waiting for your msg! Thanks and have a nice day!

| | | Dew the answer for that depends on your life style and living style. To start any where from 25 - 30 K should be ideal to live in a decent place and party weekly once (with one or two drinks) and eat in mid ranged places. If you cook it could help you to save some money.... | |

| | | Well, thank you for posting your msg. I was thinking of actually around 14000 HKD. A friend of mine says the rental of house should cost about 4500HKD, I guess the remaining can be spent pretty modestly.
I'm not much of a party girl, not anymore at least. I can save in that area, but cooking, man... I'd die young if I were to eat my own cooking regularly. So maybe the expenses wil go there.
Since I have only two years experience, maybe I should go with a humble 20000 HKD. But then again, I wouldn't want to live so badly in a foreign country all by myself. What do you think?
How much is rental for a room in downtown.. or at least near town if you were to guess? In singapore it'll cost from 900-2500 SGD...I realize space is a luxury in HK, I'm well prepared for the worst, so please bring it on.
Again,... thank you so much for posting.

| | | 14K (not a good choice) or 25K-30K I say not a chance.
I reckon for interior designer, with no local contacts, no idea where to get things done, and no experience (2 years is still wet behind the ears) I would guess about 10K would be the top rate.
my 2 cents........ | |

| | | You can check out the salary of designing job at the jobsdb.com:
http://www.jobsdb.com/HK/EN/V6/JS/JobSearch/JobSearch.asp?PN=JobListing&JobAreasU=22|0
I think min HK$5000-6000 is required to rent a local (not espat standard) apartment of 400-500 sq ft. And it won't be close to downtown. It may require 30-45 min. transportation time.

| | | interior designer honeydew,
for an interior design job with 2 yrs experience you should be be able to get anyting between 12-20k/month. the up side is tha youre an expat so you should really be gettin a higher salary than the locals here.
i would say that definately look for something above 15k. With 2 yrs experience id definately push for close to 20k. If they give you an offer lower than expected definatly ask for housing allowance, a return airfare to s'pore, just something you know... milk as much out as you can..
