| | goodfood: if you want it the San Sebastian style, it won't be tapas, we've gotta look for pinxos, the real basque way !
The restaurant I talked about was Ole, I checked it out yesterday, seems ok, as you people said, but if the owner is an asshole...
I found another tapas bar / spanish restaurant in Causeway Bay yesterday. It's called El Cid, it's on Fashion Walk (9-11 Cleveland St), they have another brand on Knutsford Terrace 14 (TST) as well. Looked good, with chinese guys singing spanish songs every evening but mondays, between 7 and 11pm (was lot of fun to the them...). The Tapas are slightly more expensive than Ole's, but they have 6 different types of Pealla Valenciana which I will HAVE to try... Anyone has heard about it??
Ryckybhk: welcome ! I guess we are kind of social people as well, hehe

He is not that bad to be honest. Our spanish friends like him .. and we've been to Ole a couple of times.
I don't blame him for pushing his special of the day.. most people are too "afraid" to ask how much it is and its sort of well known now that he overcharges for the specials.
El Cid is ok. Have had good times there ...

| | | Agree with KIA - the owner is OK once you know about the specials. And he is much more friendly towards Spaniards so if you know any they would be good people to invite along with you.
But the refusal to serve water is a show-stopper for me. YMMV.

| | About Tapas:
the thing is, in Spain, you never know how much each tapa costs. You just pick various things and stay as long as you want. Even the wine, same stuff, you just drink what you want. And at the end, the owner/barman has a look at what you had in your plate, and how much wine you've been drinking, and makes a bill for you. It's very subjective, it's based on trust.
Of course food is really cheap in Spain so you never get to pay much, and there is no reason to argue for... I guess people, here have different habits and it doesn't work so well...
the owner likes spaniards...?? ok, then we can go and I'll sympathize with him ! after a few jokes, we can maybe get a free tortilla de patatas!

| | | All the tapas I have had in Spain in real tapas bars has been free - one beer (at a fixed price) gets you one plate of whatever the tapa of the moment is. If you have a few beers and a few tapas then maybe you will be offered or can ask for specific ones.
(This was on the basis of a couple of weeks hiking around the white villages of Andalucia and visiting the very small local village bars - maybe it is different elsewhere in Spain, particualrly in the big cities.)
