I would suggest "San Marzano" located at Lyndhurst Terrace, Central (tel: 2850 7898). They do good pizzas and wine. What I like most is the atmosphere - good for family/friends gathering. Nice staff. They have Jazz night every Thursday (if I remember it correctly) on the 2nd floor. Another option is "Pepperoni's" located at Soho - opposite to Staunton's Bar. They do nice pizzas but it is rather crowded for a family gathering I think. I usually order a takeaway! If you like pasta and want to sit somewhere with friendly group of people around you, you can try "Jasper" (at Soho area). They have good wine too. Nice manager (can't remember the name though). The above three restaurants do reasonably tasty food with reasonable price, i.e. HK$100 ~ HK$150 per head (more if you order wine of course). Have a good one!

IMO Fat Angelo's is a case of "never mind the quality, feel the width". Unless you simply want as much vaguely Italian food for as little money as possible then I wouldn't recommend it. Where else depends really on what you mean by "reasonable"? Pizza Express (aka San Marzano) on Lyndhurst Terrace by the escalator is good. So is Sole Mio in SoHo. A bit above them in price in Pane e Vino in Mosque Junction (just of Robinson Road in the mid-levels). More upmarket still is Cinecitta in Star Street (near Pacific Place), which also has excellent wines by the glass. Last edited by PDLM; 11-07-2005 at 05:21 PM.

I do takeout from Alfredo's across in Soho quite a bit, I find it reasonably satisfying. Oddly enough there are still days I miss the Olive Garden. Most italian food is 'eh'. Really good eye-talian food is hard to come by, especially if you've been dulled by everyone else fare.

Grappas is awesome, it may be a bit more expensive but you get really good food accompanied by good service, what more could you ask for?!

Yes, Grappas is very good! I personally prefer the one at Admiralty to the one at Taikoo Place. But... I only go on "special occasion" as it is a bit "pricey" (for me). If I want a cheap-and-cheerful meal, I would go to San Marzano or Jasper! Last edited by Jessica Adams; 11-07-2005 at 05:44 PM.

I totally forgot about Casanostra. It's pretty good too, a little limited menu.

Poppy's in Tin Hau, roast suckling pig is unbelievable, great pasta and pizza, good wine and really nice atmosphere, went there 2 nights running when I was in HK last. A little gem in the last place you'd expect to find good Italian food.
