| Most of the puppies on sale in HK are bred on intensive breeding ‘dog farms’ in the NT’s or over the border. They are usually removed from their mothers when they are still too young, and kept in tiny cages in pet shops.
A lot of them are diseased (I forget the name of the most common one). There was a recent court case where a family bought a puppy from a pet shop, only to have to spend thousands of dollars on vets’ bills and then have it die, all because the pup was too young when removed from its mother and it hadn’t been vaccinated. Buying them from pet shops only serves to encourage this horrible trade.
PLEASE go to the SPCA or animal sanctuary and get one there. Better yet – get two! They are company for each other, and this prevents a lot of the ‘loneliness’ problems you often get with single dogs. We have two, and have never regretted it.
Bear in mind that a lot of apartments have clauses in their leases banning pets, so this will severely restrict where you can live. |
