Smile Moving to Hong Kong in September

Hi,

I'm 25. I have lived in the UK for my whole life but I am moving to Hong Kong through work in September. I am hoping to find some friends before I come out.

Also, I will be working in central HK and I need to find accommodation. I am looking for accommodation between $6,000 and $9,000 per month.

I am hoping to find an apartment with good transport links to my work. I would also like to live somewhere which has late buses/transport so I can go out at night and get home easily. Any ideas?

Michelle

Michelle, if you're planning on working around Central the Soho / Mid Levels area might be perfect -- you can walk home most of the time when you're not feeling lazy. And there are a million bars / restaurants within walking distance.

You should be able to find decent accomodation for 6-9K. I would strongly recommend taking a look at http://www.gohome.com.hk and search around.

Transportation runs all night in Hong Kong, with the exception of the MTR (underground) which stops around mid night. Taxies and buses are extremely safe to take at odd hours.

Should be easy enough to find a place.

I just got a nice furnished two bedroom apartment in Causeway Bay near the World Trade Centre for $6500 a month (though they dropped the price, from $8000, for a fast deal). Small bedrooms, but the rest is all good. Now, erm... I need a job ^_^

Actually if you don't mind living in west kowloon, there's a nice and quite place to live in, Island Harbourview. It's just beside Olympic MTR and it takes less than 10 mins to travel to Central.

You can actually find an apartment on Caine Road or Bonham Road within your budget.

Just a suggestion, stay at the YWCA on Bonham Road for a week or two while you take the time to look around the area. There are loads of real estate agencies along Caine Road and Bonham Road that can help you find an apartment in Mid-Levels. The rent these days for an apartment on Caine or Bonham Road is around 500 sq feet is about $7,000 to $8,500. Just make sure that you bargain real hard with them. Another tip for you, the further you are from the escalator, the lower the rent.

Good luck!

Thank you

Hi,

Thanks for all your help and the gohome site is really useful.

Maybe I can buy some of you a drink when I get to HK.

Michelle,

Thanks for the generous offer. Drop us a line when you're closer to reaching HK and we'll get a group of people out.
