Obtaining HK ID Card

I lived-not borned- in Hong Kong for 12 years before immigrating to US in 1968. Thinking about seeking business opportunities in HK and China and would like to have the convinence of traveling between HK and China with the HK ID card.

The school I attended when I was is HK is no longer there and I have no medical records

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can obtain proofs to establish my 12 years of residence before I moved to the US.

Any comment is greatly appreciated

as far as i know the 7 years residency for a permanent id card must be immediately prior to applying for it....you can check the immigration website...

try www.info.gov.hk for starters

A friend from NYC did just that

1. Do you still have a copy of your "expired" HK ID card ? If you lived in HK for 12 years, I bet that you must have a copy of your HK ID somewhere.

2. Do you have any school record e.g. transcripts, report cards from the schools that you attended in HK ?

3. Do your parents have any record e.g. utility bill, property tax bill, etc showing that you and your family were in HK for more than 7 years ? You need to link your name with your parents' in some formal papers i.e. your parents' record may be able to show that you and your parents did live in HK for more than 7 years and there is a formal linkage proving that they are your parents.

4. When you left HK for US, what kind of document did you have to leave HK as well as to enter US ? Your US immigrant application may have information about your presence in HK for more than 7 years.

5. Do you have $500K USD ? If you do, you can apply for immigration based on investment status. I may be kidding but some people did go thru this route.

A friend of mine from NYC did just that by taking advantage of her parents' record in HK and then by linking herself being the daughter.

Good Luck !

Hi Wing,

Thank you for the great info.
As for that half million US, that's the very reason of why I am coming back to Asia. I want to make that first half million or two.
Perhaps you can give me some suggestions on that as well.
Thanks again.

Hk Id

If your parents were born in HK, then you can get residency by virture of their status. I just applied for my kids that were born in the US and myself and my wife were both born in HK. The kids ID will not equal to one that was born there. You will not qualify for the "Home Visit" card to go to China without a visa. Without the ability to get the "Home Visit" card to go freely into China there is no advantiage just getting the HK ID.
