Couple of General Questions to Ask. Thanks!!

Questions to ask:

1. Where can I get those universal adaptor? And how much?

2. Do all public libraries offer free internet access? Can I bring my laptop to the library and plugin the ethernet? Where else can I have internet access (especially with Microsoft Word Installed)?

3. If I want to buy some Computer Accessories, Are there some general places to go? (like Walmart/Futureshop in Canada)

4. I've heard that people can rent a cellphone in Hong Kong, where can I rent one and how much ?

5. Where (Which bank) is the best place (offer the best rate) to exchange currency?

THANKS A LOT

1. Where can I get those universal adaptor? And how much?

Fortress or Broadway or any electrical shop - watch the voltage it is 220V 50Hz here.

2a. Do all public libraries offer free internet access?

Yes - booking in advanced is advised, having said that you should be okay now because school has finished.

you might need to apply for a library card first check www.hkpl.gov.hk for more info. And that if needed will require Addres proof, and ID proof. Pick up form from any branch.

2b. Can I bring my laptop to the library and plugin the ethernet?

doubt it all have a PC set-up ready for you to use, better ask the assistant.

2c. Where else can I have internet access (especially with Microsoft Word Installed)?

Word installed - nah.

Wireless roaming is possible for a fee in several coffee shops
refer to www.netvigator.com for more info.

Many coffee shops do have a couple of PC with internet access, look out for "Pacific coffee" - access time is limited to 15 mins, and word not installed.

3. If I want to buy some Computer Accessories, Are there some general places to go? (like Walmart/Futureshop in Canada)

Nothing like walmart and never heard of Futureshop. Visit

- Golden Shopping centre - nr Sham shiu po MTR
- Wanchai Computer Centre - nr Wanchai MTR
- Windsor House, Causeway Bay
- Mongkok Computer centre

All your computing dreams will be fullfilled.

4. I've heard that people can rent a cellphone in Hong Kong, where can I rent one and how much ?

The airport has you walk out there is a counter, damn expensive I have been told. Secondhand units are plentiful, and pay as go SIM
available from any 7-11 store.

5. Where (Which bank) is the best place (offer the best rate) to exchange currency?

Banks better than retail outlets, not much difference between bank rates in my experience. Where - depends on your location.
