My family is moving to Hong Kong next month from the US. I looked at the cars for sale website. The car cost is reasonable while gas cost is outrageous. Can someone please advise why I can get an quote for insurance?

You wont get a online quote for insurance for 2 reasons. Most of the online insurance stuff is way behind what is available in the UK/US, etc. The other reason is that for someone from overseas things like NCD (no claims discount) can't be calculated. Insurance here is cheap, so no major worries. You can get your insurance through a broker here, though will be more expensive or you can buy direct although you need to know who works for insurance firms here. I save $1500 a year by going direct.

Seconded. I have used them for years. As brokers/agents they offer you a choice of insurance quotes.

FYI: Some insurance companies set up and operate insurance brokerage firms selling policies only from their parent - acting more like an agency. Not sure why, regulations? but it does happen here.
