Housing in NT Hi, I will be working in HK, and am looking for a place in NT preferably Sha Tin, Tai Wai, Ma On Shan area, with good links to public transport. Ideally I would be looking at a village house, since I will work mostly at home , so that we have enough room for both an office and living space. For the moment I have a budget of 10K rent for this. Will I be able to find anything for around this price? Thanks!

I am sure you can.. You better go to Shatin and check through an agency.

Most Village Houses in Sha Tin start at about $7000 per month and go up and beyond $10,000 depending on age of building, etc. For example - Kak Tin Village - Top floor and rooftop, 700 square foot (very useable and looks much bigger when compared with 700 foot apartment) is available for $7500. Newer village houses in Hin Tin Village are about $8,500.

I've never seen a whole house for rent in Sha Tin. You may want to look up in Tai Po if you are looking at a whole house.

GATTs, There is this little piece of paradise called Lamma Island, that's just 20-30mins boat ride away from central pier (2IFC) at the water front. Why would you choose to live so far away when you can have everything so close? There are no cars on the island (except for moving trucks for building materials) and the population is very low. You can get all your food & household shopping on the island and the rent is cheep! you can rent a house for around $9000 in Pak Kok village (many people working from home live there) and for about $7000-$8000 can rent a thrid floor apartment that comes with your own stairwell + rooftop. Check out http://member.ctinets.com/~masunlui/, and http://www.compunicate.com/Lamma-zine/ratecard.htm web-page created by local expats. you'd be pleasently suprised

Hi thanks for the Lamma tip, but I already live there I really like it there, but since I will have to meet clients, and preferably will need to store some products at the home office, ferry times can be pretty cumbersome. Thats why I'm looking for the Shatin area (or anywhere els with good transport connections in the NT)

look no further please read the thread about Lamma Island, anything decent will be over an hour away for the price you're asking for... Lamma has a pretty decent boat schedule - thier anything between 20mins - 30mins apart during peak hours, and the ferry ride is 20mins (fast ferry) to 30mins (normal ferries) - we go there a lot to get away from Central.
