just bought a flat

yep... Just took posession of my first house!!! Very excited to get out of my old place, and I LOVE my new flat. It's in Park Island, which some say is rather inconvenient, but a 15 minute ferry direct to central is perfect for me . Oh, and the best part is the balcony with awesome sea view...

Anyways, just wanted to share the good news with you all... Happy Friday too btw..

Thank 4 the info - just an idea in my head at the moment but I was just curious if there were any HK specific complications with buying a property... Escpecially being an expat.

well, the bank gives you a hard time... I dont know what it is with HK branches, but was just a lot of paperwork and persistent harassment. I had to put a significant amount down, however.

getting a bank and credit card here as a foreigner was like pulling teeth! I make about 40K, and was denied a Credit card 4 times before they finally approved it.

My mortgage is through HSBC, but i needed to provide statement histories of ALL my previous banking in the US (4 years ago), as well as showing enough collateral and equity for 1.5 times the mortgage. In the US it is easy. I guess it is just because i am quite young.

IC... I think its not because you are quite young but probably quite new to this place.. Usually, Banks need past records to rely on.. Try doing the same thing after few months or a year, you will be amazed to see how easy and straight forward it is...
