Nah , I doubt they will make you renounce your former citizenship before even applying. They'll probably approve you and give you six months to show them proof that you have renounced your citizenship. I know that's how it works for Macau but not sure about Hong Kong. As far as I know, you may be able to keep both passports without them knowing !

Why not fight the ID card instead of passport? Give them a reason it should be 5 stars and don't mention the passport. Then if u get ***** than you can apply for passport.

Email enquiry@immd.gov.hk and let them know what your situation is (leaving out the passport and nat. team parts) see what they suggest. Good luck.

Your situation is similar to mine. I agree with some member who suggested you to keep Canada passport but not HK SAR passport, and use your HK ID card to do whether you want in HK. I am doing this now..
