Question English Ex Pats

I have been reading through old forums where people have asked advice about where to live and think I will start with loking at Stanley but wanted to know if there are areas that have more Europeans / British Ex Pats ??

Hello JanetW
I'm a new poster relocating from London UK in August- to Hong Kong island (Southside) We will be living in Chung Hom Kok.
I have heard that the south is full of expats but I dont know where from...if its any help our new neighbours will be French one side and Americans the other.
We looked at some places in Stanley too where there seem to be many expats and other areas (Pokfulam/Jardines lookout) because of my daughters school but chose a house in CHK. Bit further from Central than I had thought but we'll see.
Maybe if there are other English expats on this board they will give you more info.
Good luck with your flat search
Louise

Janet,

As the American Int'l school is located in the southside, you'll find a lot more Americans in Stanley/Repulse Bay. European Expats are everywhere and not in one particular area.

Thanks

Thank you both for the info. Had been thinking about Repulse Bay but would rather live in a more 'European' area so maybe we shoud have a re-think. will be coming over to explore before we commit just thought I could cut down on some time!!! The forums here are very helpful with a lot of planning. Louise Amanda good luck with your move. We too are re-locating from London - no set date yet. It would be good to hear how you get on when you arrive.

Hi Janet

Yes please feel free to post me. Let us know where you decide to plump for and we could exchange emails if you're going to be a newbie too! We took over a week to find somewhere but maybe we're picky. We actually had to extend our stay but a house that we saw on day 1 , which we were told was taken a few days later, then came back on the market etc
Hope you find somewhere nice.
Louise

Hello

Just as an update we moved now and have been here a few days. The rain has slightly impaired my roaming so far but I'm getting used to walking round in soggy clothes

JaneW - did you move yet?
Good luck
Louise amanda

Hello Jane
Yes we have moved and are settling in. Lots to do to fend off heavy rain in a big place but getting to know the area and its seems great!
Have had a couple of sunny days too and of course its so warm.
You do need effective air-conditioning in a place though. We persuaded the management to put split air-conditioning in certain room anew(instead of old style noisy contraptions) which they did. DP had found it difficult to sleep upstairs (at 37 degrees!)
Hope you make it over - its something to look forward to! More later. Louise

We are also from London and due to arrive on the 1st October.

I found a place we liked by Stanley in the week I had looking around but felt quite pressured, finding the area that you are likely to be in for at least three years is quite a tall order when you bearly know one end of the Island from another!

We have decided now to go into a serviced apartment and look again when we arrive in October.

We don't have kids or know anyone so it's quite intimidating but this forum really gives me hope that I will have the opportunity to meet new people and make friends!

Good luck with your moves!

Emma
