Working and Living in HK as Expat?!

Hi everybody,

I will be negotation my expat package with my company in europe. I'ver never had to do something like this. I don't believe everything what there tell me.
It's better to make some own research :-) .
Can anyone give me some ideas on basically what the company should offer in terms of housing assistance, trips home, additional vacation, etc?
I understand that all companies are different, but I'm trying to get at least a general idea of what to expect and /or ask for if it's not offered.
How is the salaries for a mid-level manager with 6 years working experience?

Thanks in advance your guys!

Regards, sunshine08

Have a look around on www.jobsdb.com, you should find roles similiar to your level of experience, but note that there are 2 types of salary positions, one for locals and one for expats.

I'd also be interested to find out if superannuation is payable by the employer (~9% of gross salary), and what the 'standard' annual leave is .... I'm hoping it's at least 4 weeks p/a which is standard here. Also wondering how many companies provide 6 weeks annual leave ....

Other things which may also be of interest include: sick leave, family leave, study leave ... it all adds up. But since I'm not in HK atm it will be hard to tell.

... anyone care to shed some light?? =]

-D

no standard rules.

considerations:
- housing allowance
- tax equalization (you'll prolly take home more if you opt out).
- per diem for misc. expenses for facing "economic challenges" of new country
- moving costs
- repatriation costs
- kids to send to international school
- there seem to be a lot of public holidays here
- there may be no cap on sick leave days
- annual leave...flights home for you and possible dependants
- tax advisor
- i think typical local annual leave is 14 days or so for the first 5 years.
- some companies pay salary based on 13 months per year (i don't know how they came up with 13!?!)
