California Gym Rates

Hi,

Am considering re-joining California gym. I cancelled my membership when I was pregnant. Anyone join recently?
What's the joining fees like now?

Rani

What Joining fees?

Hi Rani!!

If you're rejoining the gym...there is no way you should be paying the joining fee...or the processing fee for that matter! Its all about discussing it with them! Just say that you were a past member and that you had to cancel your membership coz of your pregnancy..and that now you would like to rejoin! so you shouldnt be paying any of these stupid charges! so just make sure that you dont end up paying either the joining fee or the processing fee! They will probably say its the peak season but then you have the "past member" alibi to fall back on! It'll work!

As far as the monthly rates go...well thats basically gonna depend on wht you can bring em down to and where they could break you! I dont think there is one standard rate for anyone at the CFC!

I am assuming that you would be taking the platinum membership and signing a years contract! In my case I'm paying around $450 a month...but I have heard of a few who've even managed a $350!

Hope this helps! Happy Gymin!

Cheers,

Hiten

Raniji,

I guess hurry up before the California folks read this thread and become alarmed in order to avoid further customer disappointments

Standard fees at gyms

I personally think it is important for gyms to have a standard fee to ensure that all members are treated fairly - only in HK will you find gyms dropping their fees down so low...do the math, less money per head, more heads, more members they will need to service - in HK, space is limited, so you pay for a membership that's good for one person, but they cram in 10people/ sq meter...and the quality of people, can...well...comes down to one thing...you get what you pay for for. p.s. PureFitness has one standard monthly fee & you definately get more than what you pay for there.

Rani

After what had happened, I can't believe you'd reconsider rejoining a company that did that to you during your pregnancy... ?!?

Physical

Why don't you try Physical - just discovered their gym this weekend.
They have a fixed price for everyone and the gyms are well equiped. The price for them are:

1. $800 + $299 (registration fee + monthly fee for use of all gyms)
2. $600 + $299 (registration fee + monthly fee for all gym excl. Sha Tin branch)
3. $0 + $3000 (no registration fee + 1 year lump sum) - this works out to be $250 a month
4. $0 + $3588 (no registration fee + 1.5 year lump sum) - this works out to be $200 a month

I guess each option depends if you want a monthly fee or a longer contract. There's no pushy salesman either.
