To cut a long story short...you can't get an HKSAR passport UNLESS you renounce your existing passport/nationality and pledge allegiance to the Chinese flag (which for people of Chinese descent should be a pretty easy process, and for those who are not, then the Immigration Department has procedures on how its possible to do so) in HK,..only then can you be qualified to get a HKSAR passport and also a China pass/ID/whatever.....

An HKSAR Passport has the only benefit of letting its holder to travel visa-free to 120 countries....(mind you,..only to TRAVEL, and nothing else you're thinking of...), apart from that, I see no "doors" being opened that would otherwise have opened anyway in any other situation, no extra property ownership privileges that most ROA Permanent Residents already enjoy, no extra voting privileges that we don't already have (or not, ), ...so it all boils down to personal choice, and convenience.

Essentially, weigh all the pros and cons and then decide....

I really don't know why if you have a US, or British passport that you will give it up for a HKSAR passport? I don't see why anybody will do that though? Unless, you are trying to escape from US taxes. As what I have heard that if you are American then no matter where you go, you still need to pay US taxes though.
In Canada, it is different. You can claim yourself as non-resident but still consider to be a Canadian citizen and still able to get a Canadian passport. The only difference is that you don't have to pay Canadian taxes unless you still have a bank account in Canada. You can tell the bank to take care of the taxes. What ever interest you get, you will probably get taxed half or something like that.

I can tell you that I have HK ID with 3 stars on it so permanent resident, China ID card to go back and forth from China with a visa and have Canadian passport still. The only difference is that when you go in with your HKID or China ID card, you won't have protection from Canada or whatever countries that you have a passport from. Unless, you plan to do some criminal activities.

You can compare what HKSAR passport will give it to you compare to your own passport though that you have.
