Teaching in Hong Kong?

Could anyone give me any advice? I am a qualified teacher with three years exp. (secondary level - 11 to 19 years) My partner will be a qualified teacher in December of this year. (Tertiary level 16-adult) We would love to go to Hong Kong together and teach in nearby schools for about 3 years. How on earth do we get started?!
Thanks!

Ummm.... by contacting the schools to see if they have any vacanies or figuring out what their recruiting schedules are?

Our Resource Directory has a list of schools.. start by visiting their websites...

Teaching in HK

The EMB (Education and Manpower) is a good place to start. They do most of the teaching appointment in HK. You have missed the boat for this years intake though I think.

It may be worth contacting them to see if you can be put on the list to replace teachers who leave, last year it was a very high percentage who left at christmas.

The pay and conditions have been reduced a lot over the last few years, so many find the financial rewards are not worth the hassles/working conditions.

Having said that, there have also been a number who have been here for years, so its not all doom and gloom.

The other thing you may need to check out would be the pay scales, they reward years of service, and as you are both new teachers, the pay would be fairly low, so you will need to weigh that up with the cost of living in HK.

Could also be worth a look here, www.nesta.com.hk, NESTA stands for Native English School Teaching Association. Its a volintary organisation run by the teachers here, they may also be able to answer your questions.

Cheers

Has a listing of most school's (and their websites) in Asian countries, including HK that recruit foreign teachers, and much more info for qualified teachers looking to teach in Asia. This is how I scored my job, going direct to the school. Some schools start recruiting from as early as Jan for the new school year starting in Aug/Sept.
