Turning right in the left lane... What is it with Hong kong that everyone finds it normal to go all the way round a roundabout with their left signal on in the left lane? I can't even understand going all the way round in the left lane, nevermind the left signal thing. Solid white lines in front of the turn off are an idiotic and counter-productive element of traffic management here too. What happens when these people go and drive anywehre else in the world?

You should try watching Kiwi's tackle roundabouts. I used to complain every morning about the crappy driving I encountered on the way to work...!

At least they were using the signals (LOL). roundabouts are always an adventure but I still think its a lot safer then China, i have seen people going the wrong way around in roundabouts so that they could get to the exist instead of doing a full circle.

At least there *are* roundabouts in Hong Kong. In North America some genius decided that mandatory 4 way stops are a better idea.

There are some in Canada. They are rare. They are almost nonexistant in the US. If you ask most New Yorkers about roundabouts, they'll say that there is one... in New Jersey. And that they have no idea how to use them. Instead of roundabouts, there is the idiotic 4-way stop. Every car must stop, even if it's the only car in sight. And if there are multiple cars approaching from multiple directions, right of way goes to whoever got there first, which encourages people to speed up to get to the intersection first (and then hit the brakes anyway). If there are 3 or more cars, people have to mentally track who has precedence. Oh, and another wonderful thing about 4-way stops. It's not always obvious that an intersection is a 4-way stop- either there is a tiny label under the usual 'stop' sign, or you have to look at the cross street to see if it's also got a stop sign on it. I assume that 4-way stops are another one of those things that the early adopter country got saddled with and found it hard to change out of when better things came along (like PAL vs NTSC and GSM vs CDMA Last edited by jgl; 14-01-2009 at 12:37 PM.

Three words: Arc de Triomphe. Drive around that just once and you'll suddenly develop a love of how HK drivers go around a roundabout.

Or even Le Periphique, which seems to be one very very large roundabout....
