Ahhh Lygon St, home to some of the finest coffee and pizza shops in the world. I'm off home for 5 days next week, and my parents-in-law live just off Lygon...can't wait!

On a more serious note, you're going to have a more international experience in Hong Kong. Sydney (or virtually anything in Australia) is going to be a fairly bland cultural experience.

Walk into a bar in Hong Kong and you can meet people from atleast 4 different countries within 15 minutes.

yea, i agree Sydney is over rated. hype park! spare me!! aussies have the guts to descibe it as 'a city that never sleeps' and dont get me started on its city planning. but i agree there are many great places for sunday brunch. whereas melbourne is a wonderful place, but seriously too slow. Hong Kong is all about making and spending money. in a way its not very cultural. if you are the type who will die without museums and galleries, think twice. but if you are ok that you dont get paid for overtime and minggle with people so crazy about designers' goods, hk is ok. also, if the outside element is important to you, dont go hk. the air pollution here is world class. btw, Taguro, London's chinese food sucks! compared to those in NY, SF, sydney, melbourne. some doesnt even taste chinese. clean though. the thing i love about HK is the low tax rate, Aussies pay WAY TOO MUCH for j.howard. and the airport is so close to the city. seriously, its all the same everywhere after a while. just another city.

Hachez: Well Carlisle chinese food is amazing no matter what people say. I ve never been to OZ (but only heard positive stuff) and only been to NY as an infant so I cant really compare the chinese food mentioned but I like the London stuff. Amsterdam does crap chinese food though, but they have great everything else though.
To make this post more insightful: I would rather be heavyily taxed and know that my government is dishing out okay health (NHS) or having to rely on private (For example). Not sure about ozzie tax but it seems to me by having high tax you say it keeps one of the worlds best immigration system that protects its civilians and doesnt allow it to be a milking zone like the UK, where everybody comes in due to "soft"-touch.

Mr. Lover
I used to live in Hongkong for 6 years and if I would turn my life around I would go back to live there again. I party, socialize, and best of all eat a lot of authentic chinese food. If you like a night out HK is the best place to go, meet different people from all over the world. We go clubbing from 10 pm and out by 7 a.m. There are a lot of international restaurant for example in Lan Kwai Fong where a lot of westerner hang out, there is an African cuisine that serves fried grasshopper and other insicts for delicacy. If you want to get rid of your hang over from previous night, you can hang out at Tea House in central area and have a cup of "moments with your friends tea" with milk of course. If you are craving for westerner food and would prefer to cook at home you can shop at Olivers grocery store.

I wish you good luck in HongKong.

I would also go with Hong Kong. Some people judge a city on it's night life compared with what they have back home. But Hong Kong is more than that. The Chinese are social people and Hong Kong reflects that. It's more about eating and drinking together, meeting people and talking to them. That's what I love here.

Also this is a place of contrasts. You have the busy HK island and places like Tsim Sha Tsui and Mongkok. But you also have beautiful beaches and gorgeous mountain scenery if you want to get away from it all, and no more than an hour away from central!

hi , im 21 ,lived in Hk approx 2 years. I VOTED SYDNEY so im going to be biased and list the best of my sydney lazy life

Food-
Sydney has some DAMN GREAT salmon sashimi, THAI, Korean, Curry,KEBABS, YES there is even african food too, PLUS good ol' tucker Witchetty grubs .Most great restaurants i visit arnt located in the city, they are scattered like north sydney, artarmun, newtown and good old fish and chips in BONDI, where else in HK will you be able to see hot looking tall girls in bikinis who have great shapes while eating with your hands and sand between your feet.
Hong Kong has great food, if you can afford it. eg SOHO, there are exceptions where food is great and value. Beer and drinks are expensive in HK. OZ happy hour each schooner is $4 or less, cant remeber.

Money
OZ- earn more-pay more tax[ bonus great healthcare and community service ]-nothing to buy so sprend less-property investment;A house in OZ cost $$$$$
HK- earn less - less tax[ $600HKD per docter visit, extra for dentist, goverment demand rates]- pay day spending sprees-
property investment;A house in HK cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

WORK and Living
Sydney is Relaxed, mon-thu work and lazy, fri-sun still lazy but having good time, partying and pubbing. People are easy to meet, and with so many jap, kor ,chn, twn, euro and other interational students flying in everyday to study. Makes meeting people from different country easy. I prefer to meet japanese and korean people, they are just the best friends.
HK people are cool , except for a few HK MALE personalites i dont like.

Sports-
I do lots of sports,-SKYDIVING - Rockclimbing -scuba -fishing -basketball
Since living in HK for 2 years my daily routine for sports has been cut to excercising once every half year basketball match. Things that are scheduled everyday , work fast, then eat faster, then more Karoke, sleep less , and work faster again. little bit exaggerated, but close enough to the point .

extra=
I've lived 2 years in HK, great place, first there was a huge HYPE to see everything new and old in HK, to experience everything they say is so good on TVB tapes rented in sydney for $3 per tape overnight( what a ripoff since tvb is free to air in HK).

final words.
Im a very lazy bumming around kinda guy, and my hk friends arent very bumming around type of people.

there really aint anything bad about HK when you have lots of money to spend and " air pollution in HK is world class." as quoted by "Hachez"
