| | | How much can you save with HKD40k/mth? Just running a survey to see what someone like you can save with HKD40k/mth... for a family of three. | |

| | | Depends It really depends on how you live your life here in HK. Eg. If you go out for meals everyday (which is very difficult not to), I dont think you can save a penny. If you live far away from HK island (which is also difficult not to) there is a chance of saving since that you can enjoy a bigger space to live with less rent.
It all depends on how you choose to live your life.

| | | well... that's pretty much what I would be getting by relocating the entire family there.
Just thinking out loud... Rental 10k, and another 10k for other expenditure. I should be able to save 20k.
Just worried that 40k would be too small a package there in HK.

| | | Moderate We live on about the same budget too but only two of us, living in a big house in SAi Kung (too big!!!), a car, and every month we send money back to NZ and UK. We can do this because we dont spend many nights in HK island, we just love to go to TST and we arent a fashion minded or the like, which help a lot, since its difficult to resist all the branded stuff!!! | |

| | | Thanks, Reni, for the valuable information.
By the way, how's your place in Sai Kung? Rental and quality of living (size of apartment, is car required, etc)?
HKD40k - that's the entire family's income?
Cheers, | |

| | | a late reply better than nothing We rent a duplex house which is quite common in Sai Kung. We have moved to another one, because the first was just too noisy (by the main road of Tai Mong Tsai Rd.) and luckily we could find a (lot)cheaper duplex house about the same size (1400sqf + rooftop) and in a very nice area too.
We still have a car, which I think is necessary if you live in a very remote area like most of Sai Kung villages. But you can also depend on TAXI. So no worries. More than 50K now, coz we're both working.
I hope this is not too late!
