OK first your husband needs to get his work visa. You cannot apply for a dependants until he has this, because without the work visa you cannot be dependant on anyone! Usually if there is enough time it will be mailed so that it can be stamped when he enters Hong Kong. If he comes here without it he himself will need to re-enter to make it valid once he has it.

Once he has this visa you can then apply for a dependants visa. This will take a few weeks to process and once you get it you will need to validate it within (from memory) 3 months. A date will be shown on the visa to show you when it needs to be validated by. A simple trip to Shenzhen or Macau will suffice. When you re-enter just show them your visa and they will go through the motions. It will be stamped "journey completed" and your year starts from that date.

Hi
I got my dependents visa about 3 weeks ago and it says nothing about having to leave and re enter the country. My Visa just says that previous conditions of stay are hereby varied and permission to stay is extended until such and such a date. Could it be different for people coming from different places? I’m fro UK.

Thats what Barbara, your case is similar to any other Employment & their Dependant visa holders.. Nt sure why JayKay insist on re-entery thing for DEPENDANTS.. And being from UK should not make any diff. to that...

Could any other Empl visa holders put concluding remark on this!!!!

My Husband asked at work and they have never heard of it, he works with a guy from UK who's been in HK for 9 Years and he doesn't think you need to leave and re enter his wife certainly didn’t need too. It says know where on my Visa that I have to do this and Immigration I believe would of mentioned it if it was necessary.

I can only comment on my experience.

We applied for BOTH the work visa for my husband and the dependents visas for the family (as he is our sponsor) at the same time before we left the UK. It was pretty straight forward (but LOADS of forms, copies etc.) and only took a few weeks and they were ready when we arrived. So we have never had to do the leave HK thing and go to Macau for the day.
