13/14 salary?

hi,

I have got a question: is it by law that an employer has to pay a 13th or 14th salary to its employees or is this just a volunteer thing?

thanks a lot for your help,

An employer can essentially pay you whatever they want, subject to your agreement by accepting the contract. As far as I know the only legally mandated wages relate to employment as a Domestic Helper.

I think you would be in the lucky minority if you can get an employer guaranteeing you 13 and 14 month "bonus" these days. It still does happen, but as I'm aware most have cut back in the past few years. In that case, just calulate out the total annual amount and see if that is competitive, and if you may also have a seperate "bonus" on top of that, normally a %age of annual base salary.

only in relation to a FOREIGN DOMESTIC HELPER...local helpers are not protected at all!

i only wish it was mandatory for a 13th or 14th month bonus! wow!

Thank´s a lot for your help. Where I come from it´s by law that you get a 13th and 14th salary (it´s called vacation money and christmas money). In some branches (banks) you even get a 15th salary because of the needed more expensive clothing.
