Buying Furniture - Setting up a house

Hi

Still considering whether to pack all of our goods from Australia and ship over or take the cash instead and buy second hand when we arrive.

Looking at the classifieds most things look quite cheap and good quality - can anyone tell me if this is the case.

My biggest concern is getting it all delivered / picking it up and taking it back to Discovery Bay? We are expecting to be in Disc. bay mid to late july.

Cheers

I would suggest bringing along most of you electronics. You can buy stuff here, but not really any cheaper at all. Make sure though that you bring a couple of powerboards with you and an adaptor. Also, don't forget your music collection...i'm missing a lot of the cd's i left behind

I have the solution

We are a family from USA who are moving back in July. We have a fully furnished flat and are planning on selling our furniture. We have nice comfortable futon beds with bedding, side tables, shelves, all the kitchen equipment you would need, even air fresherner. We wondered the same thing and decided to send things. I am glad I did because I felt it was going too time consuming to collect it.

So if you are interested let me know fast as I am putting all of these things out on the market soon.

Most of the places you buy furniture from over here will have a home delivery service available. Best bet is to just go to IKEA and get most of the things you want in one go, with delivery and set up, or go to a furniture rental company.

Also, you should be able to find a lot of used furniture in DB itself. People moving in/out all the time.
