| Cheap/Fast Visa for China? Where in HK can I get a single-entry or multiple-entry visa for China both FAST and CHEAP? LoWu? Other travel agencies? Government agency? Does it typically take longer than one day, or can you get it right there and then? I am a US citizen here on a 30-day "grace period." Please help!!! | I've always used these folks. I know nothing about the cost of a visa for a US passport though. http://www.chinatravel1.com/english/...hinesevisa.htm |

US passport holders can not get VISAs at the border. Try any China Travel Service branch - I think that they can get it done for you in a day provided you submit your application with them in the morning. This obviously costs more. Or you can get it done within 3 days - cheaper price. Check out this website. http://www.chinatravel1.com/english/...hinesevisa.htm

thanks guys. it is a rip-off for u.s. passport holders. i called cts, $850 for single-entry, something like $1100 for double-entry, i didnt bother asking about a multi-entry visa. well, what can you do...convenience comes with a price. a chinese visa cost me 400 RMB in china, but i had to wait five business days. if anyone knows of better "deals," if such a thing exists, please share.

I think the Chinese must hate the Brits and Americans. We pay so much more than Canadians for a visa....

Yes, but that doesn't apply to Americans and Brits. There are different prices for different nationalities.

If you go to the Chinese government place down by the Immigration / Revenue tower (take the Wan Chai walkway, turn right and go about a block) you can get your visa in a few hours. It has to be submitted by 11:00 and then I think you can pick it up by 3:00. There have been some tit for tat price increases between the US and China. In addition, China is very upset with US INS policies (as are many) but China believes it should be treated the same as many countries in the visa waiver program, and the US basically laughs off that request (because of the number of illegals from China and the rejection rate of current applicants, China is a far way off from visa waiver status). As a result, China feels no pain in charging US visa applicants a little more than the rest of the world. C'est la vie...
