| I have horrific near-sightedness (-9.00) plus some astigmatism. A year ago my US eye doctor told me he thought I was near the limits of what could be done with LASIK, though he was not a LASIK surgeon. Anyway, called Quality today to ask a quote. The lady who answered the phone simply said 11,800 for both eyes. She made no distinction for any method of payment. She simply said it was a special. When I asked how long the special runs, she said until the end of 2008, which to me defies the definition of a "special." Sounds like a "regular" to me. Anyway, I'll go for the visit and see where it goes. Don |

| I went to Quality yesterday and am booked in for surgery in a few weeks - fingers crossed! When I got checked out in Australia last year they said I had to come back in a year and prove that my eyes hadn't gotten worse.. Anyway seems like there is no such requirement here in HK. My eyes are pretty bad (about 9 degrees now apparently) and I'm ok for it I think, although I need a further 2 hours of eye checking on the day. The most troublesome part of it is having to wear glasses for 5-7 days before 198the surgery (I normally wear contacts). I got the brochure and it appears the normal price is 19,800 - that's a full 8,000 off with the HSBC discount! |

| Well, as I mentioned yesterday, I did go to the office of Quality Healthcare today for a sort-of pre-check to see if I'm a candidate. Yesterday they were telling me on the phone that I would have to stop wearing my soft contact lenses one week before the surgery (2 weeks if you wear hard lenses) so that the surface of the eye can return to it's natural state, allowing them to accurately measure the surface and shape it accordingly using the laser. I had said I didn't want to stop wearing my contacts for a week, only to come in and find I'm not a candidate. So they said to come in today for a 15 minute measurement of the corneal thickness. I understood them to be saying that they needed to make sure my cornea had enough "meat" to be safely laser shaped. It turns out that my corneal thickness is about 512 micrometers. Anything above 500 is OK. 450 is getting too thin. So I scheduled to do it May 23rd (due to insane travel) because apparently you need to be around for a couple checkups during the 2 weeks post-surgery - 1 week absolute minimum. For you cheapskates (like me) asking the money questions, both nurses at the desk confirmed the 11,800 price. I asked if I could pay by cash to get that price, and they said yes. I got the impression that you could probably pay by any method and get that price, but I did not ask about using a different (non-HSBC) credit card. Don EDIT: Also, my -9.00 strength did not shock the guy at all. He says -11 or -12 is getting bad. Here I thought I was special. ;-) Last edited by DN325Ci; 26-04-2008 at 03:18 PM. | I would be very interested in hearing your feedback about having it done at Quality Eye Care. I was looking to go there anyway. Now the price is great, and it seems that people like Dr. Chau. Please let me know about your experience. |

and the trainees are generally "supervised", and they generally have a fair deal of experience before they're allowed to cut. I doubt any self respecting business would offer a cut price job done by a trainee... sounds a bit dubious to me. This is a surgery, and it (as far as I would guess) would have to be performed by an opthalmic surgeon, ie a specialist, possibly assisted by a specialist in training... ie not a clueless yobbo.. |

| Well, I'm getting mine done tomorrow at Quality. Fingers crossed! If you don't hear from me it may be that my eyes are still recovering (?) |
