Hi, I am 24 and I just got offered a job in HK. The thing is my parents are actually hk citizens but the problem is I am over 19 and they are asking me to apply on my own merit. As I cant register or apply for anything without an hk ic, I am thinking of starting to apply for a work permit instead. Is that a good idea because I heard that applying for a IC based on own merit takes a while, am not to sure. My questions are 1. Is it a good idea to start applying for a work permit first so I can get paid? 2. Is there any better way or easier way to get around this problem 3. Will my parents birth in hk affect my IC application 4. What is a good info source for work permit application. Like steps and what to bring info. 5. Because I will be going to china quite often. Is there anything I can do besides getting a vistor visa (which is a pain) to get in and out of there? Hope someone can help me out tks. Johnny Lam

U cant apply for work permit.. you need to find an employer willing to offer you a job and sponsor visa as well... Alternatively, you can marry a girl with HK permanent ID..

Hmmmm.....marry a girl huh *snicker yeah i could just marry a girl.........but maybe I could consider less life altering alternatives. Yes what i mean by IC is the hk id I already have an employer whom is willing to sponsor me. But is there no alternative with respect to my parents are hk citizens (living in Singapore) can i get a break from that or do I have to do the whole process as if I have no affiliation with hk
