belchers vs. Bel-air apts Can anyone advise on the key differences between these apt blocks..... Facilities kid friendly/ suited to young families access to city etc. Are there other good blocks to consider in Pokfulam - my preference would be a low rise / colonial apt......but figure easier to meet people if have access to clubhouse/ facilities???? And possibly better for littuns??? If anyone living in either? Any comments would be much appreciated. Suzie

Ok, our office is in Cyberport (same development as Belair)... We have access to super secret insider information. First of all, the occupancy of both the commercial and residential areas is low. The residential developments which are available right now, were sold mostly to speculators who have not occupied the apartments. Had met with one of the directors of the facility a few weeks ago and occupancy is at about 35%. Belair and cyberport often resemble a post neutron bomb scene ... no humans around at lunch time, which is spooky in Hong Kong. The super market is also not stocked with a number of fresh items .. Also, you will need a car at Belair.. the transportation is pretty bad. (Getting better) Would definately recommend Belchers or the university apartments in Pokfulam over belair...

nice one on the inside knowledge......so I guess at least you could get the rents down considerably at least. Where are the university apts advertised? A friend suggested them too. More colonial / older style. Assume that non students can rent them Ta

Dhruv (my 3 year old) and I went to a playgroup a couple of weeks ago at Bel-air. The residental area is deserted, so meeting people is not going to be easy. Facilities are great! Have also been to the Belcher's. Facilities are also good, lot more people although I can't gaurantee its easier to meet people (problem with big complexes) We organised a Geobaby playgroup in Pok Fu Lam and we had 5 moms from the Belcher's show up, and concidentally they had babies the same age. They're now the best of friends and meet weekly. Smaller complexes in Pok Fu Lam include Victoria Gardens, Govt buildings on Sassoon Rd, Lower Baguio Villas. The low-rises are on Consort Rise and Bisney Rd. HTH Rani

>> Colonial ... Ugh! I get ugly visions when someone continues to use that term. Those apartments were built for teaching staff.. not for students. Talk to your friendly neighbourhood real estate agent.
