Thumbs up Hiking and outdoor get together

Guys I really feel we must have a combined get together and go Hiking and to some beaches in HK. It will be an off shoot from our regular unwind at bars. I guess a days hiking can be fun. May be this is a good way to get to know more adventurous people .. sugestions welcome and some one help to organise the same...

I am a member of the Saturday Hikers but the hiking season has ended now. The group starts hiking again in late September.
There is also another hiking group called the HK Trampers and they get together on Sundays! www.hktrampers.com
Happy Hiking

At this time of year the weather can be a problem (too hot or too humid/rainy or both) but I'd be happy to try to organise a hike. How about Sunday 26th June (since the 19th is Father's Day which may be a problem for some I guess)?

How long/hard would people like it to be?

IMO the two best areas for hiking in HK are Lantau Island and deep in the NTs beyond SaiKung. But in both cases this is a full day trip from HK Island.

Alternatives would be to walk either from the mid-levels or from Taikoo to Stanley (about a 3.5 hour walk for people of reasonable fitness).

Or up to Lion Rock and Beacon Hill from Wong Tai Sin - about 4 hours and a bit harder than the Stanley walk.

Another group is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/twatshongkong/ ("Trail Walkers Are Tired Soles" in case you wondered!) This is a monthly walk on Saturday afternoons (to allow for those who work in the mornings). Hike in the country followed by a few drinks/meal to make it a little more social...

The problem with hiking this time of year is the humidity and heat so you want to wear as little clothing as possible and the mosquitos so you have to wear lots of clothing otherwise the little buggers will get you!!

Talking

I hate the blood sucking flying bugs. Best option is the use a good anty bug lotion. Also i guess a 3 and half hr walk should be good, followed by some get together... I guess this would be a good oppertunity to mingle and know one another. Prove the expat strength, though anyone is welcome. Berry may be u can organise and see what is the responce....
