Can I work in HK?

Hey everyone, I am new here so sorry if advance if my question has been answered a million times before.

I am a 20 yr old uni student from Sydney, Australia and was born there. I have no HK residency but would like to go back in July and possibly look for a job/internship/vacation work. It seems all places require HK residnecy cards or some kind of work visa, do I have to get one for all jobs? Including casual retail etc etc?

If so, does this mean I have no chance of getting any kind of job over there? Aren't there "under the table" cash-in-hand type places (I speak fluent Canto and English)?

Thanks!!

you say that you were born here... were your parents permanent id holders when you were born?

i just gave birth to a son here (i'm canadian, with Perm ID, my hubby is perm id holder too)...on my son's birth certificate, it states that he is also a perm resident.

what i'm trying to say is.... you may have the right to work here without knowing it!

have a look at your birth certificate and then get in touch with HK immig. i've always found them to be helpful. they'll let you know exactly what, if anything, you are entitled to.

good luck!

ap999 is on a distinguished road
Any person born in hong kong before 1983, as a birth right is considered a HK Pernament Resident (regadless of parents nationality etc).

if you are born in HK before 1983 you will be entitled to the HK ID card with either ROA or RTL status

Both these status will allow you to work, live, study in HK

Still a British HK Belonger?

Sorry my post must have been misleading. I was born in Australia. My parents were both born in Hong Kong. Any chance of me getting any kind of work casually at all in HK?

I don't know about there but here in fashion retail etc it's pretty easy.
