cheap international calls

Can anyone recommend a cheap international call service (such as Onetel or Alpha in Europe) to make calls to Europe mostly? I have tried calling cards, but they seem to be expensive and a real hassle...
Thanks a lot!

My cell phone plan is ridiculously cheap for international calls to North America.

Go to the newspaper stands and local groceries. They normally have a wide range of international calling cards you can choose from. Ask for a specific country, calls to the UK, for example can be as cheap as 50HKD for 350mins=15 cents per min (landline)! Price is pretty much the same for other countries in Europe or N.America.

OH yeah, some cards are cheaper for calling cellphones, others are good for landlines. You gotta ask

Calling directly from your HK cell can be ridiculously expensive!!

International calls

if you have a computer, you might try Skype...it's free and works great.

Good luck.

If you only want to use your calling card from one or two phones (and no-one else is using those phones) then some calling cards have a feature where you can register the Calling Line ID of up to 5 phone lines against a card so that you only have to enter the Card Number the first time you use it (often by pressing *5). This makes the cards a lot less hassle to use - you just call the 8-digit HK access number then the international number you wish to call (starting just with the country code).

Baron is an unknown quantity at this point.
Agree with dbro4, Skype is the way to go. Download for free from net (very small file) and buy a microphone, then talk for as long as you like, to anywhere in the world for FREE!!! It's very clear as well. You can also type chat (like msn messenger). Can't get better than free can you!

Well yes, but only for free to other people who are similarly equipped, and you have to schedule times when they are in front of their computer and so on. To me that's nothing like as convenient as mobile-to-mobile.

Thanks a lot for your help on this. I know, Skype is best as soon as I get mine from the shipment, will use it. In the meantime, need to hunt down the best card deals then...
