| Gym's tried and tested Hello all you fit people!! I'm relocating to HKG next week and would like to find a gym to join whilst I look for a job as well. I'm wondering, can I join a gym and not get tied into long term contracts, are there gyms that let you pay as you go, or are there others that will offer special tickets for a weeks membership or a months membership? Do gyms here offer discounted memberships if you're employed with a certain company? I can see in the Geo Directory there are quite a few gyms to pick from, can anyone recommend any in particular ones that are better from the rest with good classes, CV equipments, free weights, a pool, and other decent facilities? Bearing in mind I don't have sponsorship yet, I kinda don't want to pay over the odds just yet - any good / bad experiences that I should be aware of? Cheers Toots |

| Why don't you try Pure Fitness, they have 2 gyms in Central and I know they also do month-to-month memberships if you cannot do a full year contract. I know that they do corporate deals, but with which companies, you'd better call and ask. I heard someone talking about special 50% off deals if you had the HSBC Platimum card?! Call up HSBC to find out!! Toots, I am a member at Pure and I am 200% happy with their service. I've been to all the others and seen nothing like this one. They have the best instructors in town, I know because I've been here a while and when they opened, all the good ones were hired to teach there, second, they have the newest machines for weights and a huge selection for free weights and free motion machines - while I am at it, they have a cycling theater (they do DJ spinning there), full on rock-climbing wall, a real boxing ring with REAL boxing teachers, a hypoxic training chamber, loads of cardio machines with individual LCD screens atached (+a full liabray of DVDs to choose from), and the largest selection of group exercises classes to choose - also for a little more, they you can up-grade to use the Pure Yoga facility. I think it's best that you check it out for yourself - www.pure-fit.com & www.pure-yoga.com |

| Thanks Jiva!! I posted that thread ages ago, but it was nice of you to respond. Yes, I've been reading the other thread on California Fitness, but I don't think I'll go there, as when I popped in to browse, I got talked into a health check, had all the salesy schpeel, and then I was bombared with messages on my mobile (I knew shouldn't have completed that form!!). And from what I've read on the forum, they seem to have a bad reputation. I'll check out pure! Cheers T |

| Pure's amazing. I went only as a guest once and the amenities are incredible. The Mid-levels location kind of sucks because its a trek up but I suppose if youre going to the gym you wouldn't mind the exercise just walking there from the MTR. |

| Toots, I didn't know if you were going to write back, well, just be wise about it, luckily when Pure opened my California membership was expiring so I didn't loose that much money with a long contract - I bumped into an old gym buddy and she said they had her sigh a 4 year contarct (and she did sign...) so now she will be stuck till 2008...all gyms have trail packages, I'd take the time to investigate - warning, once you see 2IFC Pure, the decision will be easy to make. morninglemon, I live in Mid-levels, so when I fisnish from Hollywood road to go home, I just do what I have to do and take the escalator up - if you're from water level, IFC is a great choice - which one did you go to? |

| Pure in IFC is amazing, but its $999 a month! Its also empty! When I took my tour there were only 5 people in the gym and one person doing the Yoga class. Rani |

My yoga studio is beautiful... with really awesome instructors... I pay $1080 for an unlimited monthly contract... A bit pricey by local standards.. but since I go basically everyday, I guess it's reasonable. |

| I am a member at Pure Yoga as well, I did an upgrade because there are more choices of time slots avaliable. Pure Fitness also has yoga classes avaliable everyday, check the schedule just to be sure. www.pure-fit.com It seems their share their teachers between the two departments...they are one company. I have been to other gyms with yoga and no-ho-way!! |

What time did you go? I go usually at lunch times and there's usually a fair amount of people there, but just after 2:00 - the numbers drop very quickly. Depends on what time you go. Jiva |
