Purple,

It is cheap! Curtains cost $200-600 each. The fabric selection is quite good. I got ours made from Century shop # 4422. Also, there's another shop which looks really good on the 3/F. If you walk towards the BBC restaruant, its the corner shop right next to the esclator. I belive they're also recommended in the shenzen shopping book/

What part of Shenzen are the curtain places located? And where are the good furniture places? Never been, but heard there are great deals.

Yes it is indeed cheap but the quality is crap. I prefer buying them locally in the TST area where you tend to pay 20 - 30 % more than Shenzen prices for better workmanship and imported fabric.
I guess if you are renting a flat it really does not matter.

tstexpat, Not always crap .. like anything that one buys anywhere in the world, the uneducated buyer is going to taken for a ride.

We were quoted about $4000 for our balcony curtains in Wanchai and got the lot (balcony + 3 windows) done for under $4K.

If you know what you're doing, can negotiate and are generally know how to examine finished products -- shenzhen still has good options.

I agree! The stores that I mentioned have some really good quality fabrics. We got our entire house done for $1800.

Good for you.
I recently was quoted $9,000 for curtains, blinds, rods and the works for my 3000sq ft flat in TST. I just had it redecorated and now have floor to ceiling windows. This was for British made fabric and I had several quotes from people in HK for around the same price. The guys in Shenzen were quoting me $7,400 for the same without the rods, installation etc and with local China made fabric.
I ordered it through a guy in TST who did a fantastic job
and am glad that I did not get it made in China. I have ordered from Shenzen several times in the past and IMO the quality was crap. I guess if I were renting a flat I would not really care too much.
FYI I do know how to negotiate in Shenzen as I speak & write the language fluently and so does my wife who is Chinese. I also happen to know most of the store owners in the LoWu arcade and around Dongmen as I often make large purchases from them for my customers overseas.
