Question Macintosh computer query

Please don't scoff......but I have a question regarding my G4 Powerbook (2002) and hope someone can advise.
I am getting a message saying my disc is full. Mainly when downloading iTunes music files and transfering iphoto files etc.
Upon ringing a dealer here in HK, they tell me I need a new disc.
Now I thought I just needed to double my RAM from 256 to 500MG and this would solve the problem. Now I am confused.
Can anyone help with this?
Cheers
Neil

Neil,

Computers have two types of memory (keeping it simple here... so bear with me) --

Hard Disk -- which is where your programs and data get stored. The data on the hard drive is permanent and does not get erased when you turn off the computer.

RAM -- which is where stuff gets copied to, from the Hard drive when the computer needs to access it.

If your computer is reporting that you have a full hard drive, I'd take a look at two things.

1) Buying a new hard drive -- that is the simplest option for the dealer. The problem starts when you want to transfer all your old data and programs to the new drive. Can get messy, unless your dealer finds a way you can do this.

2) Delete stuff you don't need from your notebook.

3) Back stuff that you need but never access, to a removable drive or external hard disk.

If this reply adds to your confusion.. drop these guys a line onward services

Francis the guy who owns the place is a very decent and capable individual.

why not go direclty to the source? apple.com. go to support section. KIA is right in backing stuff onto a removable hard disk or drive and will bypass the problems of upgrading your hard drive for more memory.

Aloha,

I know that you posted this note a while ago, but here is what I know. There is an Apple Retailer in TST in the Mall right buy the Ferry Pier. Now I've not bee in HK for 3 years so they might have moved the best place to check is http://www.apple.com There is an actual Apple Store found at: Computer International Limited, 2401 Natwest Tower, Times Square, Causeway; Hong Kong

As far as your problem goes I would need more information to actually help you out.

Can help, too!

Hey guys, glad to know there are mac users here. As I believe it was said in this thread, too, I too have a good background with Apple computers. I used to work for the company doing technical support and sales.

Feel free to PM me any time.

Thanks!
