I just got offered a teaching position at HKBU to start their
Visual Arts Program. <snip> I am wondering
if there is anything I should know to ask to have included with
my salary. Maybe if anybody knows anything about the
teritary university system there that I should be aware of.
Depending on where you come from, you may need to adjust to the overly rank conscious hierarchy here. And, while universities here are more focused on the work (I think) than in general abroad, that does not mean the same thing as if the students abroad were more focused on the work...if that makes sense. Students live at home here longer and it shows in the maturity level. IMHO.
jjexpat, what do you mean more focused on the work? You mean marks are mostly based on their work? Or a teacher's performance is based on his work?
Prof, what kind of qualifications and experience do u have to be able to command such a good salary? Do you get air tix back to your home country every year?
Thank you for the responses. I have been teaching fine arts here in the states for a couple of years. I have numerous years in technical training in Sculpture at a Sculpture Institute here and have representation at some galleries.
They made me an offer but I am still waiting to hear back from them after I suppose they submit the reccomendation to the president. My appartment would be included but there was no mention of a plane ticket home every year.
I guess I am curious as to what to expect from them and what to except as part of working in another country
