Question Job Descriptions F7, F5 etc

hi there,

I will be moving to HK this June/July on a permanent basis and have just started jobhunting.

On many of the job descriptions I come across I have noticed the terms F7 and F5. Is this some type of salary banding?

Thought you guys might be the right people to ask!

shoho

F.5 and F.7 are Form 5 and Form 7 respectively. Normally in local schools, we have 6 years in the primary school. We call it P1 - P6. Then we have 5-7 years in secondary school. We call it F1 - F7. After finish F5, there's a public examination HKCEE. Qualified students will continue 2 years F6-F7. When finish F7, there is another public exam HKAL. Students could enter the various universities, colleges base on the results.

So if you see there's F5 or F7, that means degrees not required, but must finish secondary school.

F7 is 18 years old (for those who do grades at a "normal" pace"). You go to university after F7 so these terms are not really relevant to you. If jobs are asking for people who completed F5 it means people who left school at 16 (or thereabouts), F7 means 18 (ditto). You are way over-qualified for these positions. You need to look for jobs asking for graduates.

Nothing related to age. But yes if you have a degree, you are over-qualified for those only request a F5, F7 level.
