Hainan is pretty good for a weekend break. If you take a bus from Wanchai to Shenzhen airport (HKD120) and a flight to Sanya it is really cheap and doesn't take too long. Or travel agents also do good weekend rates from HK.
You can stay in beachfront resort hotels for cheap and point and laugh at Russians in their mini speedos and dyed hair.
Bangkok's a bit of a cliche and I don't think there is much to do there except constantly wash grime off yourself. You can fly direct to Chiang Mai or Koh Samui also.

Weekend trips I have done:

Macau
Shenzhen
Bali (I went before the bombing)
Singapore
Kuala Lumpur
Bangkok

I think that I enjoy my hops to Macau the most, but that is because I love to gamble I'll be there this weekend for a gambling trip and next weekend for the Forumla 3 race.

Three weekends from now I'm doing Guangzhou and a month from now I've scheduled Guilin/Yangshour (sp?) as a weekend trip.

This is prob a Stupid Question, but do u need a visa to get to shenzhen airport?

P.s. If i saw lots of russians with dyed hair in mini-speedos, well anyone in mini-speedos to be precise, running about i wouldnt point and laugh i'd run away...

I've been told that yes you do need a visa for Shenzhen Airport.

I know that turbojet can get you around customs somehow, but I think it is only when you leave China, not when you go there. I tried calling but since I don't speak Canto, I wasn't able to really understand what was going on.

It really depends on what you want to do over the weekend. If you're more into beaches, the East Malaysian resorts are really nice and you get alot of good snorkling and diving around there too. Or if you're a bit adventurous, go on a jungle trek in Borneo.... very cool and you get to see alot of wild life. I was chased by a wild pig when I was there .... guess he didn't like having his photo taken!
