Re-entering HK on a work visa

I am currently in Hong Kong and my work visa will be approved shortly. I have been informed I need to leave HK and re-enter on the visa. I have not obtained a visa to China yet (and don't want to spend the money) and don't really want to go to Macau.

I have a US passport. I am wondering, it is possible to go to Shenzhen, where certainly countries can obtain a visa at the border (but US cannot), act like I didn't know that US passports holders cannot obtain a visa there and then re-enter on the visa?

Baron is an unknown quantity at this point.
I don't think you'll be actually re-entering if that was the case, because you wouldn't have been able to leave in the first case.

Well, when you're leaving HK do they verify you have a visa to enter China? What about those who go there and obtain their visa at the border?

I dont know if they check your visa when you leave but if you don't get into another country (china in this case) you are not deemed to have left hk. To be honest you have to be pretty stupid to try this as a means of saving a few $ for the ferry to Macau. As for saving the time of a trip to Macau just how long to you think it will take to sort out the inevitable mess at the border not to mention the chronic sense of humour loss that a stunt like this will cause with the imigration officals.

ok, i'm obviously going to take the trip to macau. i guess i should have stated in the thread topic that i'm either stupid or had a dumb question, then there would be no need to point out my stupidity, if i just admit it. thanks for the answers all.

I agree and think that you just have to play by the rules. There is no way round it plus Macau isnt that bad!
