Since I didn't want to hijack the thread about purchasing a motorbike, I thought I'd ask in it's own thread. Where can one purchase insurance? A search here turned up a discussion about purchasing insurance for a car back in 2005. Are there motorbike-specific insurance providers? Any recommendations?

I had my bike insured thru kwikswure. They seem to be popular amongst expats, and for good reason IMHO. These guys will listen to what you want and find the best policy for you. I have purchased my bike, home contents, bicycle, latop and health insurance all thru these guys, with no complaints at all.

also worth checking that your health insurance covers for bike accidents too. some don't.

I think that to be on the safe side, regardless of the value of your bike, I'd recommend cover that looks after third party (compulsory for licence of the bike) as well as third party property and damage/theft to your bike. A good comprehensive cover can save you a lot of trouble, and is well worth the investment and peace of mind. Contact a few agents and work out what suits you best.
