We have a couple of Dutch folks here ... will drop them a line and alert them of this thread.

Like most places, where you live is probably going to depend on budgets, travel time to work etc.

By the way, we have a pretty large community of expat parents with young kids on GeoBaby.Com.

I moved from Amsterdam to Hong Kong about a year ago - I would say rent is about the same however I lived right in the centre of Amsterdam which was pretty pricey. (the apartment is much much smaller though!) I am living in an "expat" building which is serviced, has pool/gym/squash courts/sauna etc - I am paying 12K HK$ per month.

Are you moving from Amsterdam?

I work in Amsterdam, we live just north of Rotterdam. Did you move with your job?

I wonder what kind of job you do to pull 12k HK$ every month while also maintaining yourself with food / money for transport and occasional buying sprees.....

I'm dutch myself (born in NL but asian parents) and i am also thinking about moving to HK to setup a new business.
But.... the rent is so high !

Don't know, my rental allowance is higher than HK $12K. Although, I think that you can get something, if you're single & don't want much space for around that amount. No idea what the areas are like mind!

Dreammaker is an unknown quantity at this point.
Sefo, rent is much lower in the New Territories. E.g. in Yuen Long a "village" 700 ft apartment will go for 5000 - 10000 a month. It takes a 30 min bus ride from Yuen Long to Kowloon.
