Leisure Walks

Right so I've done nothing for a couple months except for sit in front of a book or a computer or bum around and it's getting annoying...and making me expand sideways like there's no tomorrow

So! I've decided that I'm going to go on leisure walks/simple hikes around hong kong (outside the city) and the islands...nothing too hardcore... i was planning to do this once a weekend or so...just to walk around, take photos, that sort of stuff? Would anyone be interested in joining me?

for info's sake, here are a few *suggested* walking routes but we can make our own of course... DiscoverHongKong - Attractions - Green - Discover Hong Kong Nature

get yourself a copy of Pete Spurrier's "Leisurely Hikers Guide to HK". You won't regret it. Great book.

a couple of us were thinking about hitting the wong nai chung gap trail in wan chai this coming saturday/sunday. send me a note if you'd like to come along... like i said earlier, this is nothing serious like what some of the hiking groups do here...plan is just to take it slow and easy. the trail is pretty much flat from what i've heard and there are some WWII relics along the way including one of the last batteries used to defend HK against japanese troops (again...i think lol).

the Leisurely Hiker's Guide to HK doesnt have any info on it but i'm sure I can pull something up online. let me know if you'd be interested and which day would be better!

best source of info for Wong Nai Chung gap is probably Tony Banham's "Not the Slightest Chance: Defence of HK"

Great walk to Stanely which I did a couple of years back

A lovely shaded family walk through a woodland park .This is a gentle and largely downhill walk starting from Wong Nei Chung Gap, where the road from Central to the south side of the Island cuts through the mountain range that makes up Hong Kong Island. It ends in the popular village of Stanley on the southern coast of the Island where there are many restaurants, bars and the famous Stanley Market. The trail follows the western edge of the Tai Tam Country Park and provides spectacular views over Deepwater Bay and Repulse Bay, looking across the Lamma Channel to Lamma Island. The path is largely a contour path, partly concrete, partly natural dirt. At Stanley there is a Maritime Museum in the reconstructed Murray Building and Correctional Services Museum and the old Stanley Cemetery dating from when British troops were first stationed there in 1841. There are also Temples dedicated to Tin Hau and Pak Tai, both local patron gods of seafarers and fishermen. The walk ends in Stanley but we give you full instructions on how to return to Central or Causeway Bay by bus.

Half day walking tour
Total Walking Tour time 3 hours to Stanley
Walking time approx. 2 hours
