visa extension

Sorry if this is repetitive but I cannot seem to make the search function work!

I have to submit my visa extension this week - I have all the documentation/forms etc, this question relates to the actual PROCESS.

Do I have to go in person? If yes, how long is it likely to take? One of my colleagues went to do hers last week and sat for 2.5 hours just waiting for someone to look at her passport and take the forms - that seems excessively stupid to me, is there a better way? I mean, this is just an EXTENSION - not even a new visa???!

Any suggestions? If the above is normal I will at least know to take a bunch of work along with me!

When I renewed last year I sent an administrative assistant to immigration with the forms and had admin pick up the extension also. never set foot in the place. Had to sign something authorizing another person to deal with it. Don't know much more than that I'm afraid.

For me the same as Hello There. The company sent someone to stamp the passport. Never been there (only first time)

I went last week and also sat for 2 hours waiting for the form to tell me when I could go back and collect the bloody thing. I took a book with me and tried to blank out the noise of the various screaming children in the waiting room...

This is where I wish we were a "normal" HK company complete with a few low paid admin staff who I could send...! Thanks. Sounds like I have to go myself and take a book! I found an online booking system on the immigration website, only it's impossible to use because it always gives me a messages saying that the site is busy and come back later!!!!!

And you can't book appointments for the main Immigration office, only for the outlying ones in Kowloon and the New Territories.

I finally got through to the website to find that most of the quotas are full and the only ones available (in very out of the way places!) first appointment is 8th October! So much for the booking process.....

every time i've gone, they've told me (after giving me my number place in line) how many minutes (or hours) wait i can look forward to. i've always been able to have a coffee and paper at Starbucks across the street with plenty of time to get back and wait...

That would help. Our office is only about 10 mins from the immigration office so I could just go back later....
