Job Chances? Hi everyone, Im a 23 years old girl, with an indonesian passport and a permanent resident of australia visa. trying to find a job relating to teaching english. so far more than 20 companies had turn me down due to the passport nationality... they dont want to take the chances since it is below 50% of getting my visa sponsor... i have tesol qualification and a bachelor of behavioural science degree from university of queensland (number 1 university in queensland)... any thought on that? is there really no chances for me to get a decent job? help!

Not being rude or anything but the local mentality here is that if your Indonesian or Filipino then they are only good for being Domestic Helpers which is very stupid. Like Nepalese people are only good for being security/body guards. Also most local parents want to see a WHITE person teaching their kids English thats why some schools specifically want White people who's first language is English. They dont specifically say that but thats how they think.

English is not your first language. I reckon you speak English with an accent as well. Of course there is nothing wrong with this, unless you want to be an English teacher! I am sorry, but what were you expecting?

I suspect that your difficulty is going to be to persuade potential employers that Immigration will grant you an Employment Visa. If you were to get married and had a Dependant Visa then things might well get a lot easier... (I'm guessing as to the reason you are so keen to be in Hong Kong).

The suggestion to naturalise as an Australian is a very good one. It will open a huge number of doors (including to Australia, which is a great place to live and work as I am sure you have discovered). If you only have 7 months to go, DON'T LEAVE. You may never get the same chance again - remember you have to qualify with the 1 year in 2 and 2 years in 5 rule and this is not easy. Being Australian will tend to mitigate (although unlikely to remove) the discrimination which you are seeing. Good luck.
