Study English for a while - that might help.

Language skills (English, Mandarin, Cantonese), experience and settling for a job for which a PhD is not required.

Did you decide not to apply for the job as Assistant Technical Manager in the Department of Physics at HKU? Or did you apply but were unsuccessful?

But If I settle down at some lower position, isn't it be too difficult to get some higher level..like lecturer..
actually I have a teaching experience of more than 2 years at university level. But still my application hasn't been short-listed for interview...

If your cover letters display the same level of English as your posts here then I'm not surprised. You wouldn't pass a first filter for "English good enough to teach using it" as far as I can see.

It's not just a couple of years' teaching experience. Universities want to see a decent research record for a lecturer's position.

At the moment, universities are gearing up for the 3-4-4 academic format and are heavily recruiting. If your CV isn't good enough to get you to interview stage when universities are desperate, you may have to rethink your career objectives in HK.

PDLM - you have no idea what local or, even worse, the mainland physics professors believe to be english here Although, funny enough, their written english is often decent but they cannot speak a straight phrase.

Doc - I'm a PhD student at CU myself - I agree however with PDLM that you ought to work on your language skills. I spotted some obvious mistakes and I am not a native speaker either. Also, I guess from your name you're Indian/south asian, and I really don't know if HK is an easy place to find a lecturing position. Imho this country is rather racist - to me in a "positive" way, i.e. since I'm a gweilo everything I say is automatically perfect english and better than any oxford educated local's. But I've read quite a few posts here by south asians saying that they felt rejected at least partly because of their race.

Anyway, I realise I cannot provide much helpful information here, but in case someone else might be able to you should at least provide some information like your work permit (got one), your undergrad/postgrad schools (in Asia or UK/US? makes a huge difference here. All professors in CU are Oxbridge or US educated) and the like.

Nothing including the academic world will out perform networking.

Getting to meet faculty of educational institutions in your discipline is one good idea.

Not sure of your visa status, but tutoring physics students makes sense to me as a way to keep active and busy and earn some money.

Networking with people in companies that could use the talents of a physics Phd is another approach.

Yes, on these boards, when you post, the grammar etc has to be good or you will get criticized not that I can write in any other other language than my native tongue.

I can't resist er2 unless you meant this:

well, that must then be some not-so-to-me-obvious mistake;-). You mean I should have written "I am not a native speaker either"? I thought that was accepted colloquial speech (but that only means I picked it up somewhere and thought it sounds nicer ). But, even if that ridicules myself, it is to the point - if even I spot mistakes, than your English is flawed.
