fresh Cal-grad. seeking jobs in hk I am a student from UC Berkeley and will graduate in this December. I am a permanent US resident holding Chinese passport and in progress of becoming a US citizen. I major in actuarial science and would like to get in to the financial industry in Hong Kong. Can anyone give me some suggestions or help me with obtaining an work-visa so that I can move to Hong Kong? Many thanks. p.s. I have also applied to some big I-Banks but the chance of getting in is extremely slim due to current financial crisis, particularly in the US. Therefore I am seeking alternative ways to move to Hong Kong. Many thanks for your help.

You have misunderstood how Employment Visas work in Hong Kong - you need to get a job offer first, then apply for a visa with sponsorship from your potential employer (which is specific to that job only). You cannot get a non-job-specific Employment Visa to work here. The other alternative is the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme. Last edited by PDLM; 15-09-2008 at 07:31 PM.

Also with no real world experience the chances of somebody hiring you over and above a local or somebody already with a visa is slim to none.
