Well I really hope Obama comes in strong in the US...he was really good staying away from the nasty tricks played by the Republican campaign until a few days ago where he said 'you can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig', which I thought was a real shame...

The truth is McCain is intimidated by Obama and so it led to a campaign war on race and values and Obama finally gave in...It is such a shame because Bush left the US in such a mess that whoever gets elected, probably will not be able to keep their promises...

But hopefully America will be smart enough this time not to let a second Bush era start...

Came across this lovely song praising Bush ( I know I know, it has nothing to do with current post, but couldn't resist)

PINK LYRICS - Dear Mr. President

I like Nader, he's the ultimate idealist. I met him at a CBC taping in Toronto in the 70's (yes I'm old).
However, no one gives him a hope in hell and many blame him for stealing votes from the Democrats in 2000 and letting Bush slip in. Hope he doesn't do it again.

The democrats pretty well always win the "world" vote but it doesn't really mean anything.

I think in the end, Obama will win this time simply because of republican fatigue. Not necessarily because he is a better candidate with a better programme. This election is for him to lose. Too many problems with the economy and Iraq.

I am not a Ralph Nader fan for two reasons:

1. he whored himself in BC for the Trial Lawyers to stop more auto insurance money being paid out as no-fault accident benefits (AB) versus getting court awards or lawyer negotiated settlements of which lawyers can take up to 33% there. BC had the highest rates for AB in Canada and now are about the lowest as the lawyer lobby is too powerful. AB are things like weekly wage loss payments, housekeeping payments, medical payments, death benefits, etc. To make their case they trotted out Ralph and wheel chair victims and won big time. The irony was that many of their victims would have been better off with the proposed shift of money to more contractual benefits than they were in court. Ralph argued that if you made more no fault benefits people would have more car accidents.

2. he knew he was going to do in Al Gore and he did.

What about former GOP member Bob Barr - another Clinton hater.

Ron Paul has been spending quality time with Ralph Nader. At a Paul-organized press event at the National Press Club for the Other Ballot Choices yesterday, the two scored plenty of media ink and air time, championing the concept of third-party voting.

Meanwhile, Libertarian candidate Bob Barr was a no-show. So, popular renegade Paul and bane of corporations Ralph Nader shared a lot of microphone time pushing the rest-of-the-ballot hopefuls.

(Not showing up to Paul's party certainly doesn't bode well for Libertarian candidate Bob Barr's overture yesterday to Rep. Ron Paul to get him on the Libertarian ticket.)

==

Nader's campaign quickly launched a Libertarian-friendly press release, saying, "Nader/Gonzalez presents a clear choice for those who want to support a candidate who will stand up against the war and stand up for personal liberties and privacy that have been trampled on by the notorious, misnamed, PATRIOT Act, the FISA 'snoop' Bill, and the unilateral dictates of the Bush/Cheney regime. ... We agree with Congressman Paul that government is rife with waste and corporate demands, and needs to be scaled back in many areas -- most of all the bloated, wasteful US military budget, which is half of the government's total operating budget."

Ralph Nader is a well-known consumer advocate who is running for President in 2008 as an independent.
His site:
Ralph Nader for President in 2008
He boosts on his site that polls show he has 6% in Michigan. Many blame him for stealing votes from the democrats in 2000 and letting Bush slip in.
