Breaking Rental Contract Due to Building Remodeling

I just moved in to a rented apartment and to my horror the building remodeling (exterior and interior of every floor!) will start in a few months. Is it possible to exit the contract without paying the first 13 months rental ?

I can't imagine how to live in the apartment during the remodeling. I know I'm stupid and had the wrong agent !

argh! that's one thing that seriously is annoying me too - they're remodelling here and from 9am-5pm there's this constant drilling which is just pissing me off because i go to work in the evening and is freaking my pets out! i've spoken to my agent and landlord to even reduce the rent at least because of the inconvenience, but was refused! i'd like to know more about breaking the rental contract as well...glarb!

Check the terms of the contract - is there a clause in their that states about breaking the lease?

You could always take your lease and consult with the Lands Tribunal to see if you have any recourse - such as breaking the contract.

Lands Tribunal Registry
Address: 38, Gascoigne Road, Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon
Telephone: (852) 2771 3034
Fax: (852) 2384 4896 / (852) 2384 4901

Building Management Mediation Co-ordinator's Office
General Office & Enquiry
Telephone: (852) 2170 3858
Fax: (852) 2782 5780

Or You could also not pay your rent for the months - equal to the amount of your deposit. Then leave.

Or negiotate with your LL for terms of breaking the lease.
