Hate LKF

I have a hard time finding some good places to go out in Hong Kong. Lang Kwai Fung reminds me of the worst small-town disco area and other more nice places and restaurants also turn into something awfull in my opnion after 10 pm. I wonder where I find funny/crazy-in-the-clever-way-people here?? Maybe I'm looking for an academic environment - I don't care, just want to find some brainpower and sofisticated humour, also when drunk...!

if you're just wanting to have a drink (and not expect a dance-disco environment so to speak lol), then head over to club 71 up near aberdeen street. it's a small space, mostly visited by artists, academics and the like. the staff are friendly as well and drinks are fairly priced (by hk standards)

what annoys me about hang out places in HK is their weird need to blast in music at an exceptionally loud volume so it's impossible to have a conversation - in clubs, i can understand, but bars?!

Well, if you want to be elitist while you drink and avoid the hoi polloi, the FCC happens to be right around the corner from LKF.

My Dive of choice to the east of LKF has to be the Fringe Club Roof; to the west Cochrane's ; to the north the Beer Bay at Pier Four; and to the south Club Paradiso at Shek O.
In Kowloon the old places have mainly gone to seed or have become triad hangouts, so safest to stick to Knutsford Terrace, or even the new strip on Mody Rd.
But I get the feeling they are LKF wannabees.
Anyone checked out Elements?
Stormies and Union Bar are there-still no regulars there to take the edge of them

kombucha - the fringe club has way too many hippie artsy fartsy types.. don't think its a sophisticated and brain power types that hang out there.

Have a feeling that the FCC's IQ might be a few points higher than the Fringe.

Knutsford Terrace is always a decent change from LKF - there is a late night bar called 'all night long' which is good.

I think RED at IFC also quite spacious and one can have decent conversation there if picked up the table on to the right side of the bar...Having said that it could be a bit expensive...

We stand firmly in the center of the road, sometimes lean towards the Fringe .. and sometimes to the FCC and sometimes towards LKF.
